4 Types of film opening

Categorising title sequence

Title over moving images
Summarise the main convention and reason for use.

This is just titles of credits that appear over motion images. This is used in title sequences so that its gives of more information to the audience as well as giving a storyline.

Which title sequence example have you looked at for this category?

The example that I have chosen to do for this category is 'saw'.
I think this type of title sequence is good but doesn't always work for every film. As I found that for 'saw' the moving images distracted the audience from the titles.

Title using animation and motion
Summarise the main conventions and reasons for use

This type of title would requires more work in editing and digital technology as there is no real life footage used but all done on a computer.

Which title sequence example have you looked at for this category?

The example I have chosen for this title sequence would be 'Superbad'
I think that because it's animation there is going to be more colour to the title sequence which would grab the audiences attention much easier than a real footage type.

Title on a blank screen
Summarise the main convention and reason of use

Blank screen title sequence are usually shown or done in a white font so that it has a high contrast with the black bckground. The way the type enters the blank screen helps the audience get a better understanding of what time of movie it is.

Which title sequence example have you looked at for this category?

The example I have chosen for this title sequence would be 'mean girls' even though this title sequence didn't only have a black screen it had a pink and black one, I think this was done to show that the movie was more of a chick flix than a unisex.

Title on still images
Summerise the main convention and reason of use

This type of title sequence is More arousing but not as much as titles on moving images as its gives the audience more information but not as much as the others.
