Title Sequence - Homework Analysis

Fight Club (1999)

The title sequence starts of with the most important people that are part of the film such as the production company, director and the main 3 actors. This then followed by the actual title of the film which has similar screen time to all the text in the sequence, with the same font and positioning in frame as all the other text. The title is then followed by less important people as the ones in charge of sound and editing, making it a logical order when it comes to importance in the making of the film.

The font we see throughout is a typed style font in the colour of bright neon blue. It is always positioned in the middle of the frame with very similar if not the same size. The texts pops up and slowly fades out in blue mist.

Behind the font we can see some sort of microscopic enlargement which is not explained until the end of the title sequence. It is accompanied by soft rock music, building up to the point where the enlargement zooms out and the audience is able to see what it is, in this case being the inside of Tyler Durden's head in extreme enlargement, created by CGI.

I like this title sequence as it keeps the audience interested, as they do not know what it is they are looking at until the very end of the title sequence. At the same time, the background is not very distracting so the audience can still pay attention to the text, it is cleverly made to keep the audience interested and builds up suspense to the "Ohhhh" moment, when they realise what it was.

To Kill A Mockingbrid (1962)

The sequence starts of with a child opening her box, as if she is letting us into her world. As the box opens we see the name of the main actor (Gregory Peck) in a white font typed style writing. The title however is presented to us differently. It is slowly revealed to us as the girl scribbles over it with the black crayon. Making it more personal to the little girl as that is the only part of the tittle sequence when the font is changed, it is a white typed font throughout.

We are later presented with the less significant names in the production. In the background we are shown the personal belongings of the little girls such as the pocket watch and the marbles filmed form extreme close-ups. The names of the remaining people are shown in the previously mentioned white typed font which alters in size and positioning withing the frame. It is always positioned near the middle however sometimes it slightly moves to one side in order to reveal what is going on in the background, in this case being the marble rolling around or the pocket watch ticking., At first, we can hear mumbling and humming from the little girl which is later accompanied by nice hopeful music.

I like this sequence as it is made very personal as we are let into the world of this little, having access to her box and seeing everything inside. This straight away tells the audience that this little girl will be important in the rest of the film and the objects might be of significance too.
