Creating the titles on motion

I created the titles using motion. We decided to follow the similar style as the Mean Girls titles of having two different colours for the names.  We will place the order of the titles in the same order as the majority of high school movies.

Editing - Daniel

As I was editing I noticed that the transitions from one character to the other are too sudden and don't flow. As a result I have decided to go out and film some filler shots in order to act as a motivational shot, as each character is going to eventually arrive at the college so I thought shots of the college would be suitable. They also clearly mark the end of one scene and start the introduction of the following character.

What we did in todays lesson 27.02.15

In todays lesson, we will continue on what we was doing last lesson.
Nazmin is still working on the soundtracks for the title sequence and amy is creating the titles which are going over the scenes.
Later on we will be going outside to film some of amy's scenes again as there was a continuity error.

Introducing the main character more...

In response to Rebeccas feedback of introducing Amy's character more, I have decided to take more close up shots of the childhood pictures on my wall. These shots will be added before the shot where I wake up to give an idea of what kind of character I am.

What we did today (25.02.14)

As we are still waiting for additional shots from Amy, we decided to dedicate this day to editing and putting in the music made my Nazmin. We are still considering re filming a couple of Daniel's scenes as we have noticed that the screen time that we have allocated to each character is not equal.
We also decided to change the name of our film from 'Story of our life' to 'Colly' to connect with our target audience of teenagers who attend college.

Editing - Daniel

After editing together the parts with Amy and others running to the college, Dan pointed out that it does not really make sense as only Amy arrives at the college even though the nerd and the rebel were present in the previous shots. in order to counter this I decided to re-film Amy's scenes without including the other characters, therefore their disappearance can be explained as they are at different parts in their journey to college.

Dan and class feedback of rough cut

In conclusion, the advice given include:

1) To even out the screen time of each characters so we need to film more of the nerds and the goths scenes
2) There is a continuity error where all the  characters run towards school but only Amy ends of at the college
3) Have more close ups of Amy towards the end.

Blogging Health Check- Group 34

Hi guys

I like the visual branding on your blog. However, you need to provide much more detail re. your production diaries, rather than just photos. You should state what you intended to do, what you achieved and what changes are you making to your plans (if any) because of this. You need to be as detailed as possible here - please edit the entries you have up. What exactly happened that day? How happy are you with what you've done? You also should post an account of what you did in my lesson on Friday as well. You can do diary entries as group posts but should also some add some short posts about your individual contributions. Also consider your skills development - what skills have you picked up since you began. Remember, workshop is open every day for you to add blogs. Please get this sorted as soon as possible - it's currently holding down your grade.

13 - C, 40 and 42 posts respectively.

Editing Blog - Daniel

As I was editing I have noticed that we have a unusable shot (when the Rebel girls pushes me). This is due to us filming in a busy area meaning that it was hard to re-shoot. I have found a way to fix that by using the shot where the goth girls is introduced as a substitute to the previous shot.

Blogging Health Check- Nazmin

Hi Nazmin, your blog is really good, 17 posts so far so a B grade  - thorough and detailed work so far. Your beginning analysis of title sequences is really good and I enjoyed your Kidulthood & Palo Alto analyses though don't be shy of using other sorts of ICT to present your work - Slideshare, emaze etc. Your sub genres post is good though I would say Donnie Darko is not the best choice to illustrate your point as this is a SF/fantasy film (though it does contain some genre elements). Please don't forget to post your Xmas HW and your analysis of your own work (the remake)

Blog Feedback - Daniel

'36 posts at health check 2.  Your blog has improved greatly Daniel, but there is still some way to go.  Don't get caught out and fall behind again - what you should do is set aside time each week (pick one of the lunchtime workshops that fits in with your schedule) and come to 323 and blog.  You need to individually blog after each filming/editing session - give an overview of what happened in each filming/editing session and what you contributed.  Then another post where you outline what you are going to do in the next session and what needs to improve.  Keep an eye on the blogging checklist too as there are still a few that need to be completed.  But an improvement - so well done.'

Review the last filming session (31.01.15)

Amy needs to a take picture of the pictures in her bedroom again because the photos are unclear as they are reflecting the light.

as well, instead of taking just one shot of all the photos, we will be taking individual shots of each shot as well s doing a long shot to show them all.

Feedback

1) The beginning scenes of the clock and calendar and so on are too long, shorten these scenes by a half
2) Where the rebel and the nerd bump into each other doesn't make sense, re film it so that we have a shot of the nerd picking up his folders and walking away
3) Also, the scenes of Ana need to be shortened as she seems like too much of a main character.

Amys health check 2

41 posts at health check 2.  This is looking much much better Amy - well done.  You've caught up with the missing posts and are on top of what you should be doing.  What I would like to see now is: after each filming/editing session you are blogging an individual posts where you reflect on your contribution to the filming/editing, what went well, what needs improvement and aims for the next filming session/editing session.  Importantly make sure that you keep up to date from now on.  But well done on the huge improvements.

Changes to Costume - Daniel

After discussion with the group, we have decided that we will change the means of transport for the nerd and not use a bike. As a result we got rid of the bike helmet prop but still left the bow tie and white shirt to convey the idea of a nerd. We have decided to go over the top with costume with each character as it is often done in high school dramas. Although it is a slight stretch from reality, it works well to communicate with the audience regarding each characters personality in just a few shots.

Production Diary- 31/01/15

Day 2: Filming the scenes for the geek girl, loser boy, rebel girl and lastly the goth girl.
location= Chapel Market, Amy's house and outside the college.
We have decided to film the scenes for the geek girl, rebel, loser and goth during the weekend as we were all free and were able to film.
The shots were very successful except one, which was the picture collage in Amy's room. we have decided to re-film that scene as the lighting is too dark.
